Away Meet at North Forest on May 30th

    Hey Shark Families!

Thank you all so much for your help with the practice meet. We had a great night!

We are looking forward to our first Away Meet against North Forest on Thursday, May 30th.

Here is what to look for in this email:

    *North Forest Away Meet

    *Junior Sharks

*5 & 6 Year Old Swimmers (Swimmers that cannot swim unassisted)

    *No Practice Monday, May 27th

    *Georgia Games Youth Swim Championship

    Away Meet at North Forest:

Our first Away Meet is this Thursday, May 30th at North Forest. Details regarding the time to check in and warm up, pool address, parking and their concessions to follow once I receive this information from their coordinator.

Please RSVP attending or not attending by Tuesday, May 28th. You can do this by going to the website: https://somersetsharks.swimtopia.com/ We will still need volunteers at away meets so please sign up!

If you are RSVP that you are attending, please attend. We understand that sickness happens but if it does, please text me (304)593-2138 or send an email ASAP. Once you are at the meet, do not leave until all of your events are finished. Leaving early leaves a relay team without a person which means those that stayed to swim cannot swim.

    Junior Sharks (3&4 Year Olds):

Unfortunately, the Junior Sharks cannot swim at this away meet. However, during the morning practice on May 30th we will have a race for them.

5 & 6 Year Old Swimmers (Swimmers that cannot swim unassisted):

While we were allowed to have a coach in the water during our practice me, we cannot allow this at the meets going forward. If a 5 & 6 year old is not capable of swimming unassisted they will not be able to swim. The Cobb County Swim League rules state that swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) unassisted, no matter the age, to participate in meets. The athletes may briefly stop and hold on to the lane rope before continuing. If you are not sure if your child can swim the length of the pool, make a note when you RSVP so that our coaches are aware. And they can determine if your child can swim in the meet.

    No Practice Monday, May 27th:

We will not have practice May 27th due to Memorial Day.

    Georgia Games Youth Swim Championships:

As part of the Cobb County Swim League, we are invited to the Georgia State Games Swimming Championship on June 8, 2024. The Georgia State Games are Georgia’s Grassroot Olympics, and we would like to invite you to participate and compete in the 34th annual Georgia State Games Youth Swimming Championship June 8th at the Cherokee Aquatics Center. We have been partners with the GRPA for 34 years, and this is a great opportunity for your swimmers to gain further GRPA swimming experience.

Great opportunity to compete against swimmers from across Georgia!

    *Fun-filled competition

*Ability to qualify for National State Games of America in San Diego

*Great warm-up for GRPA District and State Meets using touch-pads

*Olympic-style medals and ribbons through 8th place

*Free Championship t-shirts for each swimmer

*Everyone CAN register and swim in relays!

You are not required to swim in this event, but if you are interested you can click here to register:https://event.racereach.com/gg_swimming_youth_meet
